The new scale of things. Do I keep the 17” now?
I think of my iPhone in terms of my thumb and its reach, and swiping to the third screen is annoying after you need to do it repeatedly - in which case you should move the app’s icon closer to the home screen.
This constant moving of apps increases annoyance. So I thought, can I fit everything on one page?
Home screen, mid-level left side is where my most-used apps live, where my thumb naturally rests.
The top half is space-named containers so I don’t need to adhere to some arbitrary category naming scheme, and I limit each group to 9 apps so they all appear as mini icons.
Since the screen is high enough resolution, as long as I can make out the icon and they exist in consistent places, it’s easy to remember where things are. Eventually I aim to make the entire home screen groups, maybe save the bottom row for Messages and iPod or something as equally oft used. Wonder if there’s an app to auto rearrange the icons for you based on frequency of use.
Not sure if a Quicksilver/LaunchBar type interface for the iPhone is necessary…but sometimes I find all the swiping and thumb-pressing of icons a bit cumbersome.
